Seven Wonders

Since the dawn of civilization, humans have been fascinated by incredible constructions and natural wonders. Across time, people have marveled at achievements that seemed impossible, creating lists of the most remarkable sites on Earth. Today, we can explore both the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Seven Wonders of the Ancient World

The ancient wonders were remarkable architectural and artistic achievements, though only one survives today.

1. 🇪🇬 Great Pyramid of Giza – The only surviving ancient wonder, built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu over 4,500 years ago.
2. 🇮🇶 Hanging Gardens of Babylon – Fabled terraced gardens, often described as a paradise in the desert.
3. 🇬🇷 Statue of Zeus at Olympia – A giant statue of the king of the Greek gods, crafted by the sculptor Phidias.
4. 🇹🇷 Temple of Artemis at Ephesus – A magnificent temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis.
5. 🇹🇷 Mausoleum at Halicarnassus – A grand tomb built for King Mausolus, which inspired the word "mausoleum."
6. 🇬🇷 Colossus of Rhodes – A massive statue of the sun god Helios that stood at the entrance of the harbor.
7. 🇪🇬 Lighthouse of Alexandria – Known as the Pharos of Alexandria, one of the tallest man-made structures of the ancient world.

New Seven Wonders of the World

In 2007, the New7Wonders Foundation held a global poll to select the modern wonders of the world.

1. 🇨🇳 Great Wall of China – Stretching over 20,000 kilometres, it protected ancient Chinese states from invasions.
2. 🇯🇴 Petra – A breathtaking city carved into red sandstone cliffs.
3. 🇧🇷 Christ the Redeemer – The iconic statue overlooking Rio de Janeiro symbolizes peace and faith.
4. 🇵🇪 Machu Picchu – The mysterious Inca city high in the Andes mountains.
5. 🇲🇽 Chichen Itza – A Mayan city famous for its pyramid, El Castillo, and astronomical significance.
6. 🇮🇹 Roman Colosseum – The grand amphitheater in Rome, home to gladiatorial games and massive public spectacles.
7. 🇮🇳 Taj Mahal – A stunning white marble mausoleum built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal.
